| Provincial Dialogue Forums |
At the Provincial Dialogue Forum villagers discuss land,
forestry or fishery conflicts with representatives from
the National Assembly and the Local Authority. The aim
is to develop possible solutions to solve the conflict
and to prevent further disputes.
The purpose of holding these events is to encourage the
people at the grassroots to learn about their rights to
enable them to demand their implementation. The
discussions are based on Cambodian land, forestry and
fishery legislation. The governmental representatives
have the opportunity to learn about and to respond to
the people’s concerns and needs. Our aim is to encourage
both parties to use community participation and peaceful
problem solving methods.
The Provincial Dialogue Forums are organized in
cooperation with the Cooperating Organizations of STAR
Kampuchea and the Provincial Advocacy Networks, which
follows up the activities after the Provincial Dialogue
Forums to ascertain whether the conflicts were resolved
and the livelihoods of the people improved. In 2005, two
public Forums in Kampong Chnang and Pursat have been
organized.
